Urobilinogen in urine comes from bilirubin metabolism in the gut, and a small amount is normally excreted in urine after being reabsorbed. In healthy individuals, the urinary urobilinogen level is typically very low, up to about 1 mg/dL (many references list a range around 0.1–1 mg/dL). Therefore, the best choice is up to 1 mg/dL. Values higher than this can indicate increased bilirubin turnover or liver-related issues, while much lower or absent levels are not typical in a normal state. A value like 2 mg/dL or 5 mg/dL is not considered normal.
